Communication is the key

As videographers we all have ways that we shoot/edit that we use to define and characterize our style.  Its like any profession/art that you have had years of experience to craft.  Sometimes us videographers forget that not everybody sees what and how we see.  When shooting events we capture the moments that we believe are the most important and carry the most weight.  We capture as much as we possibly can, but we cant get everything... The more we focus on composing the right shot and getting the right lighting there are seconds that we lose.  Its easy to forget that sometimes the little extra light in the background is worth not missing those several important seconds...sometimes not.  The key here is communication.  Sitting down before the wedding and talking about what the videographer sees versus what the bride/groom sees goes a long way.  Some people want as much videoed as possible, sometimes people want well crafted shots and good lighting.  Sometimes there's people of interest to be included more, sometimes you don't want your crazy aunt in the video.  Its easy to assume that we all understand each other.  Sitting down before the wedding and just talking about our expectations goes a long way no matter how realistic or unrealistic they may be.  Also, knowing how to ask the right questions....
